The Anu Raina Fall 2014 collection from Day 5 of World MasterCard Fashion Week
With not one, but two mayoral candidates in the audience (we sat across from Olivia Chow and Karen Stintz was also somewhere in the studio space!) and an appearance from Toronto Star reporter Robyn Doolittle, Anu Raina‘s ode to our fair city was a hot ticket on Friday afternoon. Known for her prints, Fall 2014 was inspired by the designer’s first fall in the city (she’s originally from Kashmir, India), brought out in the collection through dissections of maps of Toronto, the city skyline at night, as well as inspirations from the ROM, the subway and neighbourhoods such as Yorkville and Parkdale. Styled by FRM contributor Odessa Paloma Parker, the retro shapes of the collection were made modern with hits of leather (we loved the ‘Toronto Pant’ from look four), sheer tops and loose fits shapes. Raina’s trapeze coats, especially in the Blue Bird print were also standouts, and was well paired with the blue bird skirt, a trend that many fashionista’s could get behind. It was a bright outing for fall/winter, with hits of purple, green, blue and orange, although it still felt decidedly autumn. With the mayoral race heating up and culminating with hopefully a new head of our state in the fall, we would be surprised if we don’t see a few Hogtown-loving fashion followers walking about the city in these pieces.
