Here, our must haves for surviving the gruelling schedule and style wars…at least until Milan! Read the rest of this entry »

WARHOL & FRIENDS
BoobyBall 2010 gets fashionable with Halston, Jagger
and Minnelli
In order to bring the upcoming Booby Ball fundraiser the right sartorial feel, the team behind the October 16th event, happening this year at Toronto’s Kool Haus, recently leaned on some of the cities best photographers, as well as friends, to volunteer their time and recreate the vibe of Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager’s legendary New York City night club, Studio 54. “The energy on set was just right,” said lensman Jalani Morgan. “It didn’t feel like a set, it felt like a party and that is what created a nice sense of authenticity for me—it was great!” Read the rest of this entry »

STADIUM LOVE
The Society Screens The Rolling Stones: Salt of the Earth
It’s not every evening that we get to screen a rock doc under the stars on a warm-ish summer night with a glass of Jameson, cuddled under a leopard print blanket with two of our besties. This past week the lovely team at
The Society invited FRM to a screening of the behind-the-scenes film The Rolling Stones: Salt of the Earth, which documented almost two years of the legendary rock bands Bigger Bang tour. With unprecedented access to the foursome, Toronto filmmakers Anthony Green and Jacob Cohl, travelled with the band and witnessed firsthand the mass hysteria that followed them throughout the world. During Bigger Bang, the Stones performed on Copacabana beach in Rio De Janerio for reportedly more than 2 million people, rocked the Super Bowl Half Time Show, and, for the first time ever, played an historic show in Shanghai, China. Peppered with amazing concert footage including performances of classic songs like ‘Wild Horses’ and ‘Satisfaction,’ as well exclusive quotes from the men themselves, this doc belongs in every rock lovers collection of DVD’s.

INSPIRED BY….
We get a sneak peek at Ashley Rowe’s Spring 2011 collection.
What inspires a designer most? Anything from art, music, models, television or an era in history could act as a muse to fashion designers. And after chatting with the Toronto-based Ashley Rowe in her Queen West studio recently, we couldn’t get over how much fun the young designer seems to be having. First came her Fall 2010 splatter collection, which caused quite a frenzy, where she splattered t-shirts, jackets, dresses and more and individually baked them to ensure the paint adhered to the fabric. Now, with her upcoming Spring 2011 collection, she’s added her own, artful spin to tye-die. So what influenced such an act of sartorial whimsy? “I saw this painting by Thrush Holmes,” said Rowe. “It’s called ‘Hippie.’ He uses these really beautiful pastel colours, and it really inspired me. I’ve done colour in the past, but I’ve never done a full collection of colour before.”

ONEXONE & Diesel present Rock of Ages
Tuesday ONEXONE, a foundation set on improving the basic quality of life for children both locally and globally, (particularly their continued effort towards relief and rebuilding Haiti), along with Diesel presented a special performance of the hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, to help raise funds for the organization, with over 1,000 rock lovers in attendance. The musical takes place on the Sunset Strip of Los Angeles in 1987 where a love story transpires accompanied by hit songs from the ’80s. The audience, that included dancer/singer Blake McGrath, TV host Zain Meghji and musician Shawn Desman, were singing and clapping along to songs by Journey, Styx, Twisted Sister, Poison and Whitesnake. The show was followed by an after party at Tattoo Rock Bar (natch) on Queen Street West.
